Privacy Policy

Overview

SpeedCamAlert is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

What We Collect

Information We DO Collect

  • Feedback submissions: Subject, message, and optional email address
  • Alert signups: Your email address, and which page you signed up from, if you use one of the “notify me” forms. Nothing else — no name, no account, and no location.
  • Device location (optional): Only if you click "Find cameras near me" and grant permission
  • Usage and analytics data: We use analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited, which links are followed, roughly where visitors are in the world, and what kind of device and browser they use. This is collected using cookies or similar technologies and may include a truncated or full IP address, depending on the provider’s settings. We use it in aggregate to improve the site and decide what to write next. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with the email addresses described above.

Information We DO NOT Collect

  • Your name, postal address or phone number
  • Your precise device location for any purpose other than the one-off distance calculation described above — it is never stored or transmitted to us
  • Payment information (we accept no payments)
  • Any special category data — we never ask for, and have no use for, information about health, race, religion, political views or anything similar

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) for two purposes:

  • Necessary: remembering small preferences, such as whether you have dismissed the disclaimer notice. These are required for the site to work as expected.
  • Analytics: measuring traffic and usage as described above.

We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not run advertising on this site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will continue to work. Most analytics providers also offer their own opt-out — where we use Google Analytics, Google publishes a browser add-on for this at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Third-Party Services

Mapbox

We use Mapbox GL JS to display the interactive map. Mapbox may collect location data and device information as per their privacy policy. We do not share any personal information with Mapbox.

Formspree

Feedback submissions and alert signups are both processed through Formspree. Your message and optional email are transmitted to Formspree servers as per their privacy policy.

Analytics provider

We use a third-party analytics service to measure traffic and usage. Where that service is Google Analytics, data is processed by Google in accordance with Google’s privacy policy. We configure it for measurement only: we do not enable advertising features, we do not use it to build advertising audiences, and we do not link it to any advertising account. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated before it does.

Vercel

This website is hosted on Vercel. Standard web hosting logs (including IP address and request metadata) may be collected as per their privacy policy.

Data Retention

  • Feedback submissions: Retained indefinitely to improve the service
  • Alert signups: Retained until you unsubscribe, which you can do by replying to any message we send
  • Location data: Not stored (only used for real-time distance calculations)
  • Server logs: Subject to Vercel's standard retention policies
  • Analytics data: Retained according to our analytics provider’s settings, which we set to the shortest retention period the provider offers

California Privacy Rights (CalOPPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected
  • Know whether personal information is shared
  • Access your personal information
  • Delete your personal information

To exercise these rights or for privacy inquiries, contact us at: speedcamalert.dev@proton.me

A Note on Server Logs and Measurement

Our hosting provider records standard server logs — including IP addresses and request metadata — as every web host does, for security and operational reasons. We do not access those logs to identify individual visitors.

Separately, we run analytics as described above. We think it is worth being plain about the distinction, because this site is about surveillance and we would rather hold ourselves to the standard we ask of others: measuring which pages people read is not the same as tracking individuals, we do not build profiles of visitors, we do not run advertising, and we do not sell or share your personal information.

Deleting Your Data

The only things we hold that identify you personally are an email address you gave us — either on a feedback submission or an alert signup — and, for feedback, whatever you wrote. Email us and we will delete it, no reason required and no account needed. We will confirm when it is done. You can also unsubscribe from alerts by replying to any message.

Analytics data is different: it is not tied to your name or email, and we have no way to find “your” records in it to delete them. You can stop it being collected at all by blocking cookies for this site or using your analytics provider’s opt-out, both described under Cookies above.

Children's Privacy

This is a general-audience site about traffic enforcement and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information through the feedback form, email us and we will delete it.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA)

The CCPA applies to businesses meeting certain thresholds — broadly, $25 million in annual revenue, personal information from 100,000 or more California consumers or households, or deriving 50% or more of revenue from selling or sharing personal information. SpeedCamAlert meets none of these, so the CCPA does not currently apply to us.

We mention this for clarity rather than to avoid anything: we do not sell or share personal information, we do not build profiles, and we will honor deletion requests regardless of whether any statute obliges us to. If our circumstances change such that the CCPA applies, we will update this policy.

Visitors Outside the United States

This site covers automated speed enforcement in the United States and is operated from the United States, where any data described above is processed. If you visit from the UK, the EEA or another region with its own data protection law, you may have additional rights — including the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data, and to restrict it or receive a copy.

We will honour any such request we can verify, whether or not a statute obliges us to. Email us at speedcamalert.dev@proton.me. If you would rather not be measured at all, blocking cookies for this site prevents the analytics described above from running.

Policy Changes

We may update this privacy policy. The most recent version is always available on this page. Continued use of the site constitutes acceptance of changes.
